The difference is that Opeth's long intros were much better than anything on TXF.
That's subjective of course, but I read interviews on The X-Factor getting slag for having such ingredients. It wasn't about how good or bad they were. It was just that type of music plus the singer.

I get that, some people aren't into long intros. My issue isn't with the concept of it, I just find the intros on TXF to be mediocre and very similar. Also, they're mixed too low and that bugs the crap out of me.

Big fan of X Factor.
I'd say it's strength is its atmosphere and its cohesiveness.
If that mood is not for you, that is also its biggest weakness.

I think the X Factor's whole is better than its parts.

Not exactly a party album The X-Factor but it has better and stronger songs overall IMO and the highs can easily match the highs of DOD.

I remember being at a friends party once a long time ago. No on there were really metalheads or anything but some of them liked some metal, all of the sudden someone put on Fortunes of War and people were like just staring at each other. I think it might have been one of the first times I heard X-Factor played anywhere else than on my own headphones at home..:p
