Adrian's ahead of Dave? I voted for him, but I am surprised. I love the way he writes, and his solos are always my favorites. Wasted Years? It's like gold.

H gets my vote, for his ability to combine great technical ability (I'm a guitarist, and I always find his solos technically more challenging than Dave's or Janick's) with amazing feel and a very melodic ear

I guess I'm swearing in the church of 'H', but I'd have to say Dave. His bluesy sound hits that special warm and fuzzy place everytime

Well since the reunion my favourite is probably Adrian, his stuff on the last three record (especially AMOLAD) has been incredible!
Pre-reunion albums, it's Dave for me
Janick is good, but compared to the other two, he's not the best. I dont like the way he plays his solo's, they always sound really distorted and weird. He's funny to watch live, though!

Adrian is definately the best songwriter of the three, followed by Janick and Davey at the end

Dave: Before Somewhere In Time. His guitar sound is awesome, and reflects pure energy of that era in a perfectl way.
Adrian: From Somewhere In time - until he leaves. He managed to compose most of the songs and solos I like within that period. Stranger In A Strange Land solo alone is enough to prove my point :)
Janick: Yeah I know this is a very controversial claim, but I think his efforts were essential for Iron Maiden to make it to 2000's. I always loved his compositions, they were fresh and out of Iron Maiden formula. His solos on concerts may not be great, but on albums he shines. I love his sound too.

special mention: I think Adrian's work on Bruce's solo album were excellent, and surpasses most (if not all) solos of IM catalog. King In Crimson, Omega etc... They were all beautiful.

I voted for JANICK GERS!!
I don't know why i love him so, he just appeals to the crazy show man in me! His guitar tone isn't always amazing, but i like his method of playing, and the feedback, mmm, the feedback :)
I know he makes mistakes a lot, but i genuinly think Iron Maiden is made better by his presence.

My ranking would be:
Janick Gers
Dave Murray
Adrian Smith

It's a close call. They all bring something to the table.

Dave has flow
Adrian has agression
Janick has passion.

I voted for Dave because it just seems like he is the guitar and the guitar is him.

Agree, but I voted Adrian because the guitar solos he is playing. It Is true that he can pick the notes from the air... I like Janick Gers too, I don't know why, but I just like him when he is playing guitar on stage. He is very energetic and I like it!

I always had a thing for Dave.
stuck with the band since forever, and plays amazing solos. Has close to no writing talent but still me faveXD
When i solo i tend to go for Dave style licks. His awesome.

No writing talent
I mean, he wrote charlote, but that's about it isn't it?
Illl be glad to be proven wrong on this, but still.

* I say including non-album tracks, since a few tracks had a different status in different countries and this status also has changed over the years.
* Virus has been placed in TXF-era.
* Janick didn't write anything for No Prayer but I believe he joined Maiden very shortly before the start of the recordings.
