Great stuff Foro. His time with the band was short, but I understand why parting ways with him was so painful for Steve : he's been a big part of his early years as a musician.

I don't think I ever read an interview with Sampson. I read on someone's facebook that this is the first big interview he has done.

@mckindog: Sampson did play The Red and the Black by BOC, when he was in Smiler with Steve Harris and Dennis Willcock.
@national acrobat and other who are in or near London around November 8th, read and see what happens! :)

Thanks for the heads up, Foro. I'm unlikely to head that far east on a Sunday to see that though.

The Plough and Harrow is one of the pubs we visited a few years back. Was it one of the ones with a question mark over it? If so, this clears it up as it is definitely the same pub.

Harris is a huge fan of BÖC, he insisted on it when he released the BL album. This said, the connection between his song and the 1973 seems to be limited to the title : the lyrics and the music have nothing in common.

Yes you're right! I think we walked to this place right after we were in Cart and Horses! (a 20 min walk).

I remember we went there and the people who were there had no clue about Maiden having played there. The same story happened when the two of us (on the last day when Per left in the morning) visited another pub, which was very small.

Yep, this other one was in Marylebone, near Baker Street. I'm still doubtful that we had the right place.

Same here!

edit:
I just read that this is Sampson's first interview for over 2 decades!

No hornswoop me bungo pony, or dogsleds on ice for 'Arry.
