Mellencamp has explained the long intro of "I Need A Lover" with one simple sentence: "My band had just learned to change keys." In the other corner, Bruce has called this song "my shot at the title". He came close. Born To Run

"Yesterday" is another serious overrated song, nowhere near as great as its reputation. I've loved the STP song since the day I first heard it. Plush

I've been sick and tired of Bob Seger since about 1985, and I'm a progsnob. I've Seen All Good People

Forget his other sappy songs and his post-Sgt. Pepper (movie) reputation; this live Frampton track is a tour de force. Do You Feel Like We Do
 
I don't like "Born to Run" at all, but it's still better than the Mellencamp song.
"Yesterday" is indeed overrated, but the STP song doesn't do anything for me.
"I've Seen All Good People" is one the best Yes songs.
And the stains comin' from my blood tell me The White Stripes rock.
 
I've Seen All Good People is one of my least favorite Yes songs. Night Moves on the other hand is awesome.
 
The Cougar track is alright but Born to Run is the ultimate Springsteen anthem
Plush is good, and Yesterday is not an elite Beatles songs, but Beatles.
Night Moves is so much more real than Seen All
Last two are meh
 
Plush rules. Beatles bias clearly puts its stamp here. Ridiculous really. Yesterday isn't even half as good. :down:

Just more sludgy alt-rock to my ears. "Yesterday" is far more memorable, and just because it's overrated doesn't mean it's bad.

The fun thing about this game is that everyone gets to be outraged almost every round. I mean, didn't this forum vote for Van Halen over "Subterranean Homesick Blues"? And for Tom Petty over "Waterloo Sunset"? Now that is ridiculous. ;)

This round has some pretty mediocre/annoying songs...

Marvin Gaye by a mile.
Don't care, but Pretenders is less lame.
Don't like U2, but it's a slightly better song.
Not Pink Floyd.

Love this Stones song. A little giveaway, before we head into the top 10 seeds: this is the highest seeded Stones song. Well deserved, IMO. Sympathy For The Devil
Second pair: both are good, Supertramp better. Goodbye Stranger
The U2 was great when it came out but hasn't aged well for me. Greg Kihn is a personal favorite and an underrated classic. The Breakup Song
This Pink Floyd song is exactly why I say The Wall is depressing. Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'
 
Sympathy is awesome, Stones at their finest.
Always had a soft spot for Brass.
Breakup song is a great little piece of catchy pop-rock

Never heard of this but I like it. It's up against a huge popular (and good track). If it would have a guitar solo (during couplets of verses) I probably would have liked it even more. Now U2 gets my vote.

All firsts.

I like Pretenders a bit more here.
"The Breakup Song" is fun.
Journey are way more depressing than Pink Floyd. "Hey You"
