I will happily vote for anything over Tom Petty.
I love all the comments like this. I think it's just as fun to see who's hated, as much as who is liked.

Agreed. I urge everybody who hasn't heard Goodbye Yellow Brick Road to do so ASAP. It's two discs and one great song after another.Elton John (This was probably the toughest choice this round. I feel some of Elton John's best work gets buried a bit under the big hits. Great songwriter.)

Madman Across The Water, Honky Chateau, Captain Fantastic...all fantastic albums IMO.
Both among my favorites on that album. Also Seen That Movie Too and Candle In the Wind. And of course the awesome title track.Lots of great songs on that album that didn't make the cut for this game. "Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding" and "Grey Seal" were both radio staples back in their day (esp. the latter). I also particularly like "All The Young Girls Love Alice".
Don't know the first two as albums (I just know the hits) but I'll second these three.
Madman is where Elton upped his game. Yellow Brick doesn't happen without Madman. It is for Elton what Meddle was for Floyd.
Also Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player. Not quite as essential, but that whole Elton era is great.
