Best of the Beast World Tour instead of The X Factour?

On 23 September 1996 Iron Maiden released their first best of album. This was a few weeks after Iron Maiden finished of their first world tour with Blaze as a singer. The X Factour was a big departure from the previous music, stage set and setlists, which didn’t help the band break Blaze in as their new singer.

Given that the band tuned down and Blaze learned the lyrics while performing more classics under the more commercial best of banner Best of the Beast, do you think that Blaze would have had a better chance as the vocalist? What setlist would you like the band to perform?

I think a small tour to promote The X Factor would have been enough. Maybe just the 1995 shows under the The X Factour banner, while returning with The Best of The Beast World tour in 1996 after the album was released. When Blaze performs tuned down versions of Maiden songs today it sounds great so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work out better than what they did.

I would go for the following setlist:

  • Man on the Edge
  • Lord of the Flies
  • Wrathchild
  • Heaven Can Wait
  • Fortunes of War
  • Blood on the Worlds Hands
  • Wasted Years
  • Afraid to Shoot Strangers
  • The Evil that Men Do
  • Virus
  • Sign of the Cross
  • Strange World
  • Phantom of the Opera
  • Fear of the Dark
  • Bring Your Daughter
  • Run to The Hills
  • Infinite Dreams
  • Iron Maiden

  • The Number of the Beast
  • Hallowed by Thy Name
  • Running Free
