Things about Iron Maiden that annoy you

Nicko mugging to the camera on pretty much every live DVD Maiden have released Janick's attention-seeking antics at pretty much every Maiden show (I've nothing against Janick per se: I know he has made a big creative contribution in the studio). Too many songs with that 'woah, woah' thing in...

    Your Maiden blasphemy

I agree. I think the songwriting, musicianship and production on TFF is stellar. UTW.

Maiden albums you can’t get into?

But which song/artist have they 'borrowed' it from? Ok, I did some research and heard Life's Shadow by Beckett. IMHO it's pretty conclusive- lyrics lifted almost verbatim and placed in 'Hallowed' and instrumental section lifted almost note for note and used in Nomad. What would possess Maiden to...

Maiden albums you can’t get into?

Agree with you about AMOLAD. I've gotten into it a little more in recent times (The Pilgrim is phenomenal) but I find it a really tough and grim listen. The preponderance of lyrically heavy songs about war what I have trouble with, I think. And yes, I know Maiden have no shortage of songs about...

Maiden albums you can’t get into?

Yes, I do agree with your comments about Bruce's vocals in more recent times. I think he's a bit 'waily' on BOS and the last two tours. Actually, I think his 'wailiest' vocal is The Talisman, from TFF (an album which I really love, I must say). But all things considered (including throat cancer)...

Maiden albums you can’t get into?

Wow. Killers is my all-time favourite Maiden album. But it's my 'gateway' Maiden album, which might be at least partially why I love it so much. A postscript to my original post: I have now finally started to enjoy and appreciate AMOLAD. I should add that I forgot to mention 'No Prayer'...

    Your Maiden blasphemy

I prefer Clive’s drumming to Nicko’s by a considerable margin.

Maiden albums you can’t get into?

I’ve been a Maiden fan for a long time now (since about 1982). Nonetheless there are a couple of albums which never really revealed their charms to me, no matter how hard I’ve tried. Those two albums being Somewhere In Time and A Matter Of Life And Death. In the case of Somewhere In Time, part...

I rather like this. Nice riff, lots of melody, heartfelt vocal.

    Your Maiden blasphemy

I always felt that Flight of Icarus was a bit overrated. To me, it just sounds like a kinda tired re-tread of Run To The Hills. It just feels...stodgy, like it never really gathers momentum. Whereas DWYBO I really liked straight away.

A question about the Rock In Rio DVD...

Thanks for the tip, Black Wizard. I watched some of the second disc on my PC last night and enjoyed it thoroughly. So I guess I'm not selling the DVD now :)

A question about the Rock In Rio DVD...

Thank you! I feel a bit better about it now :) ...but lo and behold, there's a sting in the tail. My new LG 3D Blu-Ray/DVD player will not play it, as it's a region code 2 (it would appear that here in Australia, I needed region code 4 or multi-region). A bit complacent on my part, as region...

A question about the Rock In Rio DVD...

Hi all, Recently I bought a used copy of the Rock In Rio DVD. Upon opening the case, the first thing I noticed was that it didn't contain a booklet. So my question is: should the Rock In Rio DVD contain said booklet? Just want to have my facts straight before I get in touch with the seller...

    Your Maiden blasphemy

I don't agree with every point you make, but the ones I do agree with leave me with a deep and abiding respect for you :-) Killers is absolutely sensational, and my fave Maiden album I can't look at Janick either. As inaccurate and unfair as it is to say it, he feels like an impostor to me. And...

    Your Maiden blasphemy

Same here. It's production (modern-sounding as it must have been back in 1986) does it no favours either.

    Your Maiden blasphemy

You make a good point: as someone who is not a drummer (much less a musician), I am in no position to make a call on Nicko's level of proficiency as a drummer. What I should have said is that Clive's technique and sound is much more pleasing to my ears than Nicko's.
