I'm very glad you voted for Armored Saint, but...
Say whaaaaaaat?! I would never describe Joey Vera's bass tone as "soft" or "neutered". Compressed here, sure, but you can actually hear the bass, which is more than can be said of half the bands in the game. Those octave jumps in the intro are...
I don’t enjoy this Slipknot song and I don’t enjoy this Ozzy song. Generally, I’d vote for Ozzy in something like this, but his performance is terrible here (especially those echoed lines at the end) and the instrumental does not mesh with the lyrics at all. You’ve got lyrics about suicide and...
Count me in the half that ranked Angel of Retribution very highly (number 4!). No way was that accurate after this relisten, but it is an incredibly consistent album and I find it more memorable than Mosh.
One thing of note, besides the production being pretty solid, is that the guitar leads...
Very curious to see if anything changes on the first night of the US tour, considering it’s technically the “Invincible Shield” tour and the one that ended last week was the “Metal Masters” tour.
The Wizard begins with a lengthy harmonica intro and, as such, should be disqualified. Also, it’s just not a very good song. Ozzy sounds tentative as hell and it’s a complete tonal whiplash from the superb, genre-breaking album opener. Antithesis of Light wears out its welcome very, very...
They could legitimately release this recording. The sound is absolutely great for a live recording.
I have never said this of any other band I love, but I really wish they'd stop releasing new original material and just make another Garage, Inc every 4-5 years. Their covers are better.
Things I did not know before this post:
- Manilla Road’s lead singer passed way.
- He called himself “The Shark”.
I think the vocal melodies in Necropolis are great, but it’s ok to criticize flaws. The performer being deceased doesn’t change my opinion, but glad it works for some people...
When I submitted my list, I placed Sin After Sin at #5. After relistening a few times, it's still a pretty good Priest album but far from the best.
The opening 1-2 punch of the top tier Sinner and Diamonds and Rust (the best cover Priest ever did) is amazing. Killer way to open an album...
It sounds like the band is playing in an echoey, bassy cave. The bass, guitars, and keyboards all occupy the same frequency range, making the overall tone pretty mushy. The drums lack definition.
Listen to Black Dog for comparison. Released just a year later, but has light years better sound...
