Kamelot

I just started listening to Kamelot's entire discography as they are a winter/Christmas metal band to me :)

Whoa, boy, Eternity is terrible. This Geoff Tate-wannabe just ruins everything. The music isn't great to begin with, pretty formulaic, but this guy's horrendous wailing just cripples my enjoyment of it. See what I mean:

Just finished my Kamelot relisten and here's my final album stats:

01. The Black Halo - 9.0
02. Karma - 8.5
03. Epica - 8.4
04. The Fourth Legacy - 8.4
05. Silverthorn - 8.4
06. Haven - 8.3
07. Ghost Opera - 7.2
08. Poetry for the Poisoned - 7.1
09. Siege Perilous - 5.9
10. Dominion - 4.6
11. Eternity - 4.2

#'s 3-5 all technically have the same rating, but I ranked based on my heart. I was shocked at how high the Tommy albums ranked, but after the last two disappointing Khan records they are truly a breath of fresh air and technically more "progressive" and "classic-sounding" than anything since Epica. Despite TBH being easily the band's best overall album, the cracks in their creativity started to show there and quickly overwhelmed them on the next two records (namely overuse of studio technology, mid-tempo, and vocal effects). The return to faster material, mostly clean vocals, and more keyboard/guitar solos on the last albums is great to hear. Can't wait to see what the next Kamelot record sounds like.

I haven't listened to Kamelot in a long time, but I enjoy these songs the most:

Desert Reign/Nights of Arabia - 7/10
Would give it a 9.

Prologue/Center of the Universe - 10/10
Farewell - 10/10
:ok:

March of Mephisto - 10/10
When the Lights Are Down - 8/10
The Haunting (Somewhere in Time) - 10/10
Swap the ratings of 2nd and 3rd song.

Hunter’s Season - 9/10
House on a Hill - 10/10
Once Upon a Time - 7/10
All 10's.

It becomes really hard for me to give 10/10's on those last 2 Khan albums. Even the good songs just sound like Kamelot AC/DCing their previous good songs, especially Once Upon a Time.

THE FOURTH LEGACY - 8.4
New Allegiance/The Fourth Legacy - 10/10
Silent Goddess - 8/10
Desert Reign/Nights of Arabia - 7/10
The Shadow of Uther - 8/10
A Sailorman’s Hymn - 10/10
Alexandria - 7/10
The Inquisitor - 8/10
Glory - 8/10
Until Kingdom Come - 8/10
Lunar Sanctum - 10/10
I remember Uther as being very enjoyable. Probably a 9. Like Night Prowler, I'd also rank Arabia higher.

Edge of Paradise: I probably go for a 9 or 10. Phenomenal chorus. Live, a highlight in the setlist when I saw them. Never cared about the Epica and later albums (The Fourth Legacy is my favourite Kamelot and nothing comes close to it(s style)), but this track stood out.

I can understand dropping off for Ghost Opera and later, or even The Black Halo as the style change is pretty different, but I find Epica to be a very similar musical style to Karma/TFL.

So you only like The Fourth Legacy or do you like the first three albums, too? Cause I find those first three mostly insufferable (even the one with Khan).

Old news but thought I should put this in the appropriate thread:

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/ka...north-american-tour-with-delain-battle-beast/

Saw Delain back in May and really enjoyed them. Since this tour was announced I am now getting into Battle Beast and Kamelot. Love the Battle Beast material, both with former singer and current one.

Kamelot is going to be an acquired taste for me but I am enjoying it more now than at first. By the time May comes around, I will be much more familiar with the material.

I'm excited for this tour. I love Kamelot and really enjoyed Battle Beast during their opening run for Sabaton last spring.

Delain, meh, but I'll sit through them.

That looks like a fantastic tour. Delain are great live Knicky, you'll enjoy them.

I saw them open for Sabaton/Nightwish in SLC a couple years ago. They were...eh, they were trying really hard but also using hundreds of samples and Charlotte's voice is just not for me. But, they're certainly not terrible or anything, just not my cup of tea.

Well, I respect your opinion of course. :p

I would like to see Kamelot though, despite only knowing two of their albums.

New album title, The Shadow Theory

KAMELOT guitarist Thomas Youngblood told Rock Overdose that the band's new material was harkening "back to the 'Ghost Opera' days a bit with 'Haven' elements."

Meh. Hopefully it throws back more to some old school power metal. I liked Haven and Silverthorn, but Ghost Opera is not my favorite. I'd like to see less industrial sounds. Also, I hope that's not the final artwork as it just looks like a remix of the Haven and Silverthorn covers.

I think they said full artwork reveal next week. Haven was very good imo but I’m hoping they don’t rehash it.
