Metallica

Well, rushed and rushed...It's taken them 8 years :p But yeah I get what you mean..perhaps it was released to coincide with the live stream. Metallica has debuted new songs live before though without any previous single releases or anything.

I'm in 'wait and see' mode right now as this song hasn't clicked with me yet... Maybe it will grow on me, and maybe it makes senses in the flow of the album.

It's interesting though - my local classic rock station (which heavily leans on the Black Album & Load in their rotation) played an edited version of this...and after which the DJ said "well, we won't be playing THAT again" - implying that there no hook and melody to keep mainstream rock fans interested. I couldn't imagine a DJ saying that 20 years ago!

It's possible to re-listen to the entire show here now:

http://webcast.livemetallica.com/

It starts around the 18 min mark.

Set:

  1. Creeping Death
  2. For Whom the Bell Tolls
  3. Fuel
  4. King Nothing
  5. The Memory Remains
  6. The Unforgiven
  7. Leper Messiah
  8. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
  9. Sad But True
  10. Wherever I May Roam
  11. One
  12. Master of Puppets
  13. Battery
  14. Fade to Black
  15. Seek & Destroy
Encore
  1. Hardwired
  2. Whiskey in the Jar
  3. Nothing Else Matters
  4. Enter Sandman

That's actually a pretty good 'greatest hits' set list (though if they're going to do a cover, I'd prefer the full version of Am I Evil over Whiskey in the Jar).

James sounds good, but dammit, he looks old :D
No older rock star looks as bad as Keith Richards!
