It's about 65F here today, sunny and beautiful (that's around 18C).

Perfect weekend day. I'm working-- makes it less perfect. But, doing fun stuff, sitting in the middle of the US, shutting down servers in a room in Europe and moving their virtual drives to another room to start up. Fun shit, that.

Correct. The root is "barn" - the "e" is just there to connect to the rest of the word. "Bairn" is an example of the common ancestry of our languages.

I thought "bairn" was a Scottish loanword from Norse, back when you guys were looting across Europe.

Well, it is found even further back (in proto-Germanic), but maybe its entry to Britain was through the Norsemen.
